Travel has played an integral role in my life, and, consequently, in my work as well. I became particularly interested in maps not just as a source of directions, but as a way of identifying and defining place, both literally and metaphorically. Like language, maps help us order thoughts and give structure to how we see things. Also like language, however, how we choose to label and categorize is fundamentally arbitrary.
